The Meaning of Lines in Palmistry: From the Main Lines to the Mounts
Summary
Palmistry analyzes the lines of the palm (life, mind, heart, fate), the mounds and shape of the fingers, revealing patterns of emotional stability, intelligence, and career focus.
The Astroline app scans photos of hands using AI, calculating percentages of endurance (life line), logic/creativity (mind line), and love types (heart line).
The report provides recommendations for overcoming obstacles (islands, crosses) to achieve stability in career and relationships.
Palm reading (palmistry and chiromancy) is based on a comprehensive analysis of many characteristics, not just one feature. The main principle is that the hand is the “visible part of the brain,” which is connected to it by a complex nervous system and unconsciously reflects a person’s thoughts, vital energy, and character.
To get an accurate picture, a Palm reader always compares both hands: the left hand (passive) shows natural predispositions, heredity, while the right hand (active) shows what a person has done with their talents under the influence of their will and environment. (For left-handed people, this rule is usually reversed).
The analysis always begins with an assessment of the overall shape of the hand, which reveals a person’s basic temperament and genetic predispositions.
Seven traditional types:
Elementary (rough, animalistic nature), Square/Practical (order, logic)
Spade-shaped (activity, originality)
Philosophical (analytical, tendency to reflect)
Conical/Artistic (impulsiveness, love of art)
Psychic (idealism, detachment from reality)
Mixed (versatility, diversity).
Astrological classification: Hands are also divided into four elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) depending on the proportions of the length of the palm and the length of the fingers. For example, an “Earth” hand (wide square palm and short fingers) indicates a practical, down-to-earth person, while a ‘Water’ hand (narrow rectangular palm and long fingers) indicates a sensitive and empathetic person.
The thumb is considered the most important individual indicator on the hand, as it symbolizes willpower, logic, and how a person makes decisions.
Three phalanges: The upper (nail) phalanx is responsible for Will and determination. The second (middle) phalanx is responsible for Logic, reason, and caution. The third phalanx (the base, which transitions into the Mount of Venus) symbolizes Love, passion, and animal nature.
Flexibility: A thumb that bends back easily (flexible) indicates a generous, open, extravagant person who easily adapts to circumstances. A stiff, inflexible finger indicates strong will, stubbornness, practicality, and restraint.
Each finger corresponds to a specific planet and sphere of life:
Index finger (Jupiter): Ambition, leadership, authority, and religion.
Middle finger (Saturn): Fate, limitations, seriousness, duty, and prudence (“wheel of balance”).
Ring finger (Apollo/Sun): Art, creativity, fame, publicity, and a tendency to take risks.
Little finger (Mercury): Communication, commerce, science, and practicality.
Knots on the fingers: Smooth joints indicate a person who acts on inspiration and impulse, while knotty (convex) joints indicate an analytical mind, attention to detail, and deep analysis.
Shape of fingertips: Square fingertips indicate practicality and order; spatula-shaped fingertips indicate activity and originality; conical fingertips indicate intuition and a love of beauty; pointed fingertips indicate pure idealism and detachment from the material world.
Hills are fleshy elevations at the base of the fingers and along the edges of the palm. They are also named after planets (Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Sun, Mercury, Mars, Moon). Their degree of development (fullness or flatness) indicates the presence or absence of the corresponding qualities. For example, a well-developed Mount of Venus (at the base of the thumb) indicates vitality, love, and sensuality, while a developed Mount of the Moon indicates a rich imagination and mysticism.
The lines represent a “map” of the life path. The depth and clarity of the line indicate the strength of the quality, while waviness or breaks indicate instability or problems.
Life Line: Curves around the Mount of Venus. Indicates vitality, physical health, and overall energy, not just life expectancy.
Head Line: Crosses the middle of the palm. Indicates intellectual strength, ability to concentrate, and mental attitude (practical if the line is straight; creative/imaginative if it curves down toward the Mount of Moon).
Heart Line: The upper horizontal line. Reflects the emotional sphere, the ability to love, attachments, and the condition of the physical heart itself.
Fate Line (Saturn): Runs vertically toward the middle finger. It shows the career path, life calling, and the degree of influence of external circumstances (fate) on a person.
Success Line (Sun/Apollo): Runs toward the ring finger. It signifies fame, recognition of talents, luck, and wealth.
Health Line (Mercury): Runs diagonally to the little finger. Reflects physical endurance, digestive health (liver), and business acumen. Its absence is considered an excellent sign of good health.
Small marks can radically change the meaning of the lines or hills on which they are located:
Star: As a rule, a sign of great luck, sudden success, or outstanding achievements (unless it is on the Life line, where it can mean shock).
Square: A sign of protection from danger, accidents, or loss in life.
Island: Always an unfavorable sign, indicating a period of weakness, illness, loss, or serious crisis.
Cross: Usually indicates obstacles and struggle. However, a mystical cross (between the Head and Heart lines) is a sign of a strong talent for the intuition.
Palmists also evaluate skin texture, hand color, and nail shape to diagnose a person’s physical and nervous condition. For example:
Palm color: Pink indicates health and cheerfulness, yellow indicates melancholy, red indicates excessive energy and quick temper, and pale (white) indicates a lack of vitality.
Nails: Considered “windows” into the circulatory system. Long nails indicate a predisposition to lung and chest diseases, while short nails without pits indicate weak heart function and circulatory problems.
Upload photos of both palms – AI recognizes the main lines (life, mind, heart, fate), determines their length, depth, breaks.
The arc at the thumb reflects physical endurance and stress resistance: long/deep – 80–100% energy; short with islands – tendency to burn out (40–60%).
The horizontal line across the middle of the palm shows concentration and thinking style: straight – logic, analytics, curved toward the moon – creativity, intuition.
The upper line shows the emotional sphere: straight under the fingers – rational love (stable relationships), branched, broken – passion with drama.
Vertical to the middle finger: clear from the base – career stability, intermittent, sideways – change of professions.
