Zachary Taylor Bio

Zachary Taylor (November 24, 1784 – July 9, 1850) was the 12th President of the United States, serving from March 1849 until his death in July 1850. Before his presidency, Taylor was a career officer in the United States Army, rising to the rank of major general. Taylor's status as a national hero as a result of his victories in the Mexican-American War won him election to the White House despite his vague political beliefs. His top priority as president was preserving the Union, but he died seventeen months into his term, before making any progress on the status of slavery, which had been inflaming tensions in Congress. Taylor was born into a prominent family of planters who migrated westward from Virginia to Kentucky in his youth. Taylor was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in 1808 and made a name for himself as a captain in the War of 1812. He climbed the ranks establishing military forts along the Mississippi River and entered the Black Hawk War as a colonel in 1832. His success in the Second Seminole War attracted national attention and earned him the nickname "Old Rough and Ready". In 1845, as the annexation of Texas was underway, President James K. Polk dispatched Taylor to the Rio Grande area in anticipation of a potential battle with Mexico over the disputed Texas–Mexico border. The Mexican–American War broke out in April 1846. In May, Taylor defeated Mexican troops commanded by General Mariano Arista at the Battles of Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma, and managed to drive his troops out of Texas. Taylor subsequently led his troops into Mexico, where they once again defeated Mexican troops commanded by Pedro de Ampudia at the Battle of Monterrey in September. Taylor subsequently defied orders by moving his troops further south, where, despite being severely outnumbered, he dealt a crushing blow to Mexican forces under Antonio López de Santa Anna in February 1847 at the Battle of Buena Vista. After this, most of Taylor's troops were transferred to the command of Major General Winfield Scott, but Taylor's popularity remained significant. The Whig Party convinced the reluctant Taylor to lead their ticket, despite his unclear platform and lack of interest in politics. He won the election alongside New York politician Millard Fillmore, defeating Democratic candidates Lewis Cass and William Orlando Butler, as well as a third party effort led by former President Martin Van Buren and Charles Francis Adams, Sr. of the Free Soil Party. As president, Taylor kept his distance from Congress and his cabinet, even as partisan tensions threatened to divide the Union. Debate over the slave status of the large territories claimed in the war led to threats of secession from Southerners. Despite being a Southerner and a slaveholder himself, Taylor did not push for the expansion of slavery. To avoid the question, he urged settlers in New Mexico and California to bypass the territorial stage and draft constitutions for statehood, setting the stage for the Compromise of 1850. Taylor died suddenly of a stomach-related illness in July 1850, so had little impact on the sectional divide that led to civil war a decade later.

Sun in Sagittarius 3°06’

People born under the sign of Sagittarius bear the seal of the ruler of their sign, Jupiter, which symbolizes justice and happiness. They are therefore optimistic, active, social and very honest, sometimes to the extent that their directness hurts others, without them being aware of it. Their character does not consist of scathing satire or malice, but their idea of justice implies that people deserve to know the truth.

They are people of immediate reactions, which often act on impulse, without having managed to figure out the consequences of their behaviour. They can be provoked in seconds and explode, but they can forget everything just as quickly without having the slightest idea that they could have hurt somebody emotionally. They did not mean to harm anybody, did they!?

Those who get to know them better and get used to them will not only experience a lot of fun, but also find reliable friends, who might sometimes talk too much, but generally can be trusted.

These people hate being restricted in any way. They are able to work a lot, but they cannot have the impression that it is an unavoidable duty and that somebody supervises them.

They are happy in the role of a host and as such they often exaggerate their possibilities. Their carelessness in the moment when they are having a good time is to blame for this. They act in a similar way when somebody needs help. They will do immediately what is needed and they do not expect gratitude or anything in return. They do not need much money for themselves because they do not have the need to show off and they are definitely not systematic money savers.

They are able to see the bright side of life and inspire others to have more optimistic worldviews. To others they might seem a bit shallow, but in reality they have a philosophical spirit, which lets them see narrow-mindedness from a different perspective. Their forgiveness and goodness also help them in life. They spoil this "image" by their uncompromising fight for justice when they cannot restrain themselves from aggressive behaviour. Other people around them often fail to notice that they hardly ever fight for themselves.

They defend their pride even at the cost of material losses. They do not like lengthy explanations and they do not like to humiliate themselves so they only slam the door and forget about their rights.

Moon in Taurus 4°06’

Your safety depends on stability, which is not easy to satisfy. You may have a practical nature, dependent on the material aspects of life. You have to learn to accept change as part of your life, otherwise complications can occur - changes caused by other people that you love, illness and so on. The basic problem is finding your own self-respect in order to ensure that you do not mistakenly seek it in material things. When you accept yourself for who you are, it will become easier for you to find peace and tranquility of the outside world. Your advantage is the ability to perceive yourself and your body, and to satisfy your own needs as well as the needs of others.

Ascendant in Capricorn 29°05’

Ascendant (Rising Sign)

People with Capricorn Ascendant must first become aware of their two opposing sides. One is obedience and performing their duties properly. They need to manage energy well and this requires discipline and self-control. They must achieve some social prestige and recognition. The other side is the ability to organize practical matters and achieve their goals, and also the ability to enjoy sensual pleasures.

Cancer Descendant - Partners & Compatibility
If you have a Capricorn Ascendant, your Cancer Descendant will awaken your gentleness, sensitivity and need to look after and protect. You should appreciate a partner who tries to help you get out of your thick skin with his childish naivety. You need his care, so do not be afraid to reveal the small child who is still hiding in you. Release your emotions, because if you do not do that, the dam that holds them will one day burst open.

Maybe you need to find out that you are comfortable in a traditional family setting, in which everybody knows their respective roles, responsibilities and boundaries.
