Steve Spurrier Bio

Stephen Orr Spurrier (born April 20, 1945) is a former American soccer player and coach. Spurrier was head coach of three college teams and two professional teams. He was also an excellent college soccer player and spent a decade playing professionally in the National Football League (NFL). Spurrier retired from coaching in 2015 and is now an ambassador and consultant for the University of Florida Athletic Department. Spurrier was born in Miami Beach, Florida, and raised in Tennessee, where he was a multi-sport and all-state athlete in high school. He graduated from the University of Florida, where he was the starting quarterback for the Florida Gators for three seasons. Spurrier won the Heisman Trophy in his final season in 1966, was voted an All-American in 1965 and 1966, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1986. Spurrier was drafted in the first round (third overall) of the 1967 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers, and played primarily as a backup quarterback and punter from 1967 to 1975. In 1976, the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded Spurrier, and he was the team’s starting quarterback for most of its inaugural season. After retiring as a player, Spurrier returned to college in 1978 as an offensive assistant at Florida under Doug Dickey. Dickey and his entire staff were fired after the season, and Spurrier became quarterbacks coach at Georgia Tech in 1979, under Pepper Rodgers, also fired after the season. In each of his first two coaching positions, Spurrier had been recruited to help transition from a run-based wishbone offense to more pass-oriented pro set attacks. But as an inexperienced coach, he was rarely allowed to run plays. In 1980, Spurrier was hired as offensive coordinator at Duke University by coach Red Wilson, who let him run the Blue Devils’ offense. Although his offensive teams were often less talented than the opposition, Spurrier’s wide-open, pass-oriented offense broke several school and conference records during his three seasons at Duke, and Blue Devils quarterback Ben Bennett finished his career with the most passing yards in NCAA history. In 1983, Spurrier accepted his first head coaching position with the Tampa Bay Bandits of the United States Football League (USFL), making him, at 37, the youngest head coach in professional soccer. The Bandits enjoyed success, going 35-19 in three seasons, and Spurrier’s "Bandit Ball" offense was popular with fans. However, the team disappeared along with the rest of the USFL after the 1985 season. Spurrier returned to Duke University as head coach of the Blue Devils in 1987, and his teams broke many records set during his tenure as offensive coordinator. In 1989, Spurrier's Duke team won the program's first conference championship since 1962 and its most recent to date. On January 1, 1990, Spurrier returned to the University of Florida to become head coach of the Gators. Over the next twelve seasons, he led the Florida program to unprecedented success, including the first six Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships and the first consensus national championship in 1996. His wide-open offensive scheme (nicknamed "Fun 'n' Gun"") continued to produce in Florida, and his teams and individual players set numerous school and conference records. In 1996, Spurrier became the first Heisman Trophy winner to coach a Heisman Trophy winner when Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel won the trophy. Spurrier unexpectedly left Florida immediately after the 2001 season to try his hand at coaching in the NFL, but his tenure as head coach of the Washington Redskins was largely disappointing and he resigned after two seasons. In 2005, he returned to college as head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks. Although his offenses weren't as prolific as in Florida, Spurrier also took the South Carolina program to unprecedented levels of success, leading the Gamecocks to three of the four 10-win seasons in program history, as well as the school's only 11-win seasons, top-10 finishes in the polls and its only appearance in the SEC championship game. On October 12, 2015, Spurrier announced his resignation as South Carolina head coach, effective immediately, stating that he felt the program was headed in the wrong direction and that it was time to "fire myself." He retired as the winningest coach in Florida and South Carolina history, and is second only to Bear Bryant as the most winning coach in SEC history. In July 2016, Spurrier returned to the University of Florida as an ambassador and consultant to the athletic department. In September 2016, his name was added to the Gators' field, changing its official name to Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Moon in Leo

Sun in Aries

Asc in Sagittarius

Sun in Aries

When the Sun moves back into the sign of Aries, it seems as if it is returning home. Your natural drive, self-confidence, and vitality are all brought back to you as a consequence of this. The capacity to express oneself, the chance to start anew, and the ability to be independent are all things that are highly appreciated in this location, according to you. This is a person whose personality is tough to predict because of who you are. Immediately, you can experience a sense of compulsion to take action, take a gamble, or strive toward objectives that are in line with your aspirations. During the time that the Sun is in the sign of Aries, your objectives are brought to light, and you are given the confidence to work toward achieving them as quickly as possible. Honesty, openness, and passion are characteristics that are associated with relationships while the Sun is in the sign of Aries. The fact that the Sun is located in the constellation of Aries is the reason for this phenomenon. There is a possibility that you will be more inclined to communicate your requirements and anticipate that others would similarly do the same. In spite of the fact that you are a highly independent person, a transit will make it abundantly evident to you how essential it is to cultivate connections with others who understand and appreciate your independence.

Moon in Leo

If you are an Aries and the Moon is in the sign of Leo, you are at the pinnacle of your desires and have the ability to entirely express yourself. Both your Sun and Moon are located in the sign of fire, which contributes to the fact that your personality is incredibly self-assured, fascinating, and powerful. Your emotional inner world is driven by the need to be noticed, liked, and to express yourself in a fashionable manner. Because you are an Aries, two of the most significant qualities that you possess are the ability to take charge and to make judgments quickly. In addition to being appealing, this combo is also dependable. Due to the fact that your emotions and your identity are in harmony with one another, you are a powerful force when it comes to self-expression and exercising leadership. You have a natural ability to lead, and the passion and self-assurance that you exude inspire others to want to follow in your footsteps. You are unwavering in your commitment to the people you care about, and you will never allow your allegiance to falter.
However, despite its incredible power, this energy does have a few downsides. Because of the shallowness of your sentiments, it is possible that you are emotionally unstable and prone to having major outburst events. There are moments when you may find it difficult to remain patient and focused, and there are also occasions when your demand for attention may be too much for you to bear. Because you are so proud of yourself, it may be difficult for you to express regret when you make a mistake.

Mercury in Aries

You have unwavering self-confidence and a spirit that is truly limitless when the fiery and brave sun of Aries is balanced with the bold and impetuous influence of Mercury in Aries. Your whole being is a potent source of energy, and you have faith in the vision you have for yourself. According to your zodiac sign, you are among the most motivated and focused people. This is because of your double-fire location. Your ability to control your thoughts and behave appropriately may be seen as both a strength and a weakness, depending on your perspective. You are a very loyal and protective person who will do whatever it takes to keep the people you care about safe. You are an intensely protective and devoted individual with a strong emotional bond that feeds into your need for dominance. One of the first steps to achieving inner peace is being aware of and accepting of how your emotions affect you. If you can find healthy ways to express the intensity you feel, whether it be through art, a creative outlet, or a strong, reliable relationship with a loved one, you may be able to learn how to navigate the depths without being overwhelmed by them. By exploring constructive ways to communicate your feelings, you can achieve this objective. You need to learn how to express the deep emotions you are feeling in order to safeguard your mental health and to make the most of your unique ability to heal and connect with others in a way that very few people can.

Venus in Aries

When the bold Aries sun encounters the passion-stoked heart of Venus in the spirited sign of Aries, you’re someone who is a pure work born out of fearless passion. Infinite is your being on the outside, and in your inner world of relationship exists a reflection of that same consuming intensity and fearless love.
This double-fire positioning makes you one of the most passionate and action-driven people in the zodiac. You don’t get to feel love; you are love. You are dangerously determined and will go to any lengths to get what you want, and that you can be the most fiercely loyal friend or partner who would do anything for the person's you love. You don’t love one person; you love everyone, and you can taste the fear and adrenaline in every kiss back.
But this enormous energy also presents a daunting set of obstacles. The double Aries can make you super dramatic and defensive, keeping your feelings close to your chest in order to shield the easiest hurt. You may be challenged by emotional tolerance because your emotional responses can be so strong. Some days it can feel like everything in the world is stacked against us, and you’re just waiting for that one final straw to break your back when you’re emotionally exhausted.

Mars in Pisces

With the audacious, fiery Aries sun fueling creative forces from Pisces this month, your actions are a synthesis of raw assertion and spiritual compassion. Your external loves to pursue, be bold and take charge in a bold way… while what drives you on the inside is a deep longing for creativity and spiritual union with others.
This is the dynamic of an amazing, intriguing pull. Your Aries sun needs to be the hero, charging forward and conquering. But your Mars in Pisces drags you into a realm of compassionate doing, creative making and an eternal search for personal freedom. This in turn helps you not just get right down into the flames of human contact, but at the same time you express this energy so cold, unemotional and rational it’s worse than ever.
Therein lies the mighty strength of this cycle: You can love with both a tender heart and a protective touch. Your Pisces drive gives your Aries one something to channel endless energy into and a humanitarian base. You find connection in relationships that are spacious and optimistic, inspired by mutual interests and a fierce commitment. Your energy is best in a partnership of equals where there remains always something new to discover.

Jupiter in Virgo

Where the adventurous, passionate Aries sun meets fortune in expansive Jupiter’s deliberate, service-oriented copilot world of Virgo, your instinct to expand gets fallowed by a drive toward intellectual assertion and pragmatic bravery. The strong, inspiringly courageous and aggressive individual you show to the world enjoys being out in front and initiating new things, but deep down there is a powerful impulse toward perfection that motivates you to create order and practice a sensible, stable way of expansion.
Your Aries sun wants to be the knight in shining armor, scurrying off into battle. But your Jupiter in Virgo drags you into a realm of deep passion, aggressive goals, always wanting to get to the root of everything about anyone. This makes it very easy for you to not only understand the powerful lows of human connection, but also experience life force in a form that is incredibly consistent, protective, and loyal.
The real beauty of the pairing is that you’re able to act on your more instinctive instincts and get things done with a quiet, unwavering force. Your Aries boundless energy finds depth of purpose and a grounded base from your Virgo drive. You are attracted to relationships that feel expansive and hopeful, rooted in shared spiritual beliefs and fierce loyalty. Your power flourishes in an environment of mutual respect and perpetual surprise.

Saturn in Cancer

With your pioneering Aries sun scorching through Saturn's great life lesson in the watery, nourishing realm of Cancer, you will feel a invigorating sense of purpose and dark emotional yearning to find solid ground. Your person outer persona loves to be out in front and act with brave force; whereas your inner motivational themes are centered on an intense yearning for emotional security, a tender home-building instinct and the courage of confident bravery.
This tension is both beautiful and fascinating. Your Aries sun wants to save the day, to run in and fight. But your Saturn in Cancer is drawing you toward the world where actions have tangible results, and nothing that is out of sight can be far from hands — not for long, anyway. And not only do you get to feel the scorching abyss of human connection, but also express your energy in a way that is insurmountably consistent and loyal.
The strength of the duo is being given the go-ahead to act on instincts and just knowing how things go down with an uber-quiet determination. Your Cancer influence lends a deep sense of purpose and grounded motivation to Aries’s boundless energy. You are attracted to relationships that feel abundant and optimistic, based on mutual spiritual ideals and fierce commitment. Your power soars when under conditions of mutual respect and endless exploration.

Uranus in Gemini

So a person with, say, their Aries sun and a Uranus in Gemini is akin to an intrepid explorer who must develop into an enlightened leader. At your core, you are ready to do first, springing into action with a brave heart & the urgency of taking prompt action. But that’s the greatest lesson delivered to your life by Uranus: you build a new balance, a structure and transformation for your relationships. This combination presents a riveting tug of war between your assertive, independent spirit and an intense urge to objectively investigate.
Your Aries sun longs to be an innovative force, a leader who doesn’t settle for compromise and wins in outright confrontation. But your Uranus stationed in Gemini is here to school you on the fact that if you wish to win, you have to make a conscious practice of facing those deeper realities that lie beneath the surface of all of your relationships. It thrusts you into having to stand up for the truth, however uncomfortable and in opposition to whatever or whomever stands in your way, while stretching that periphery so wide that giving is part of what you do, but not at the expense of losing yourself. It’s about being a bold path breaker and an outspoken advocate.
The real significance of this placement is that it turns your courage from a raw impulse into an organized and visible good force. You can be a silent hero, a strong amplifier who helps bring your social circles and communities into sync. You need to go out there and use your massive assertiveness to create community, respectful relationships, trust. You are capable of tacking across the rough seas of complex emotions, yet you are also able to draw a line in the sand and stand for what you believe is right.

Neptune in Libra

Aries Sun gives courage, derring-do and a pioneering attitude. Aries have a natural confidence for action to realize themselves and look at new adventures. When Neptune is in Libra, It’s relationally and somewhat subtle that fiery energy. Neptune in Libra adds even more sensitivity, idealism and desire for harmony to your personality, motivating you to think of balance and cooperation in addition to your natural independence.
This mix makes for someone who marries the courage of the intuition with a gut-level sense of fairness. Aries already chases after what they want with enthusiasm and passion, but Neptune in Libra tempers these principles by teaching Aries to lend a bit of understanding and elegance around their relationships and team efforts. They can feel attracted to creative projects, partnerships or activities that balance ambition with vision, which purpose is to fulfill a goal while preserving harmony and moral coherence.
Aries Sun opposed Neptune in Libra is struggling on a deeper level with self assertion and compromise, when to take charge and when to support or collaborate. This is what produces potential for growth and the ability to act in a committed, sensitized manner. This is the combination that when in balance, creates a person who is courageous, carries great vision and has strong societal consciousness – that which dares to dream big yet walks into every action with an open heart and the intent of fairness, involvement and inspiration.

Pluto in Leo

Pluto in Leo is illuminating your 5th house, Aries — the part of your chart linked to creativity, romance, play and self-expression. For a fire sign such as yourself, this is gasoline on the flame. You’re already a fire sign, but Pluto in Leo means all those flames get cranked up to the highest possible power. It’s not just about the thrill of the chase — it’s also uncovering the deeper purpose in your passions.
Love affairs can feel consuming, magnetic and sometimes even dramatic. You could draw in people who provoke your ego or urge you to experiment with intimacy in more exposed ways. Under this transit, romance is not “casual” — it’s transformative, and it also teaches you about the potency of love, loyalty and creative union.
Creatively, this is prime time. Whether it’s in art, on stage, writing or just living your life as though it were your stage, you’ll find yourself longing for ways to show the world all that is within. The catch? Pluto doesn’t reward ego alone. It demands authenticity. You’ll be challenged to let go of any masks and speak the raw, unapologetic truth of who you are.
You won’t just be louder or more showy by the time Pluto is gone from Leo, Aries. You will have already altered the way you direct your fire — joy and creativity and romance into a wellspring of power and purpose. It’s your time to shine, not for applause, but because your light is real.
