Bill Robinson Bio

Bill "Bojangles" Robinson (May 25, 1878 – November 25, 1949) was an American tap dancer and actor, the best known and most highly paid African American entertainer in the first half of the twentieth century. His long career mirrored changes in American entertainment tastes and technology, starting in the age of minstrel shows, moving to vaudeville, Broadway, the recording industry, Hollywood radio, and television. According to dance critic Marshall Stearns, "Robinson's contribution to tap dance is exact and specific. He brought it up on its toes, dancing upright and swinging", giving tap a "…hitherto-unknown lightness and presence." His signature routine was the stair dance, in which Robinson would tap up and down a set of stairs in a rhythmically complex sequence of steps, a routine that he unsuccessfully attempted to patent. Robinson is also credited with having introduced a new word, copacetic, into popular culture, via his repeated use of it in vaudeville and radio appearances. A popular figure in both the black and white entertainment worlds of his era, he is best known today for his dancing with Shirley Temple in a series of films during the 1930s, and for starring in the musical Stormy Weather (1943), loosely based on Robinson's own life, and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. Robinson used his popularity to challenge and overcome numerous racial barriers, including becoming the following: * one of the first minstrel and vaudeville performers to appear without the use of blackface makeup * one of the earliest African American performers to go solo, overcoming vaudeville's two colored rule * a headliner in Broadway shows * the first African American to appear in a Hollywood film in an interracial dance team (with Temple in The Little Colonel) * the first African American to headline a mixed-race Broadway production During his lifetime and afterwards, Robinson also came under heavy criticism for his participation in and tacit acceptance of racial stereotypes of the era, with critics calling him an Uncle Tom figure. Robinson resented such criticism, and his biographers suggested that critics were at best incomplete in making such a characterization, especially given his efforts to overcome the racial prejudice of his era. In his public life Robinson led efforts to: * persuade the Dallas police department to hire its first African American policemen * lobby President Roosevelt during World War II for more equitable treatment of African American soldiers * stage the first integrated public event in Miami, a fundraiser which, with the permission of the mayor, was attended by both black and white city residents Despite being the highest-paid black performer of the era, Robinson died penniless in 1949, and his funeral was paid for by longtime friend Ed Sullivan. Robinson is remembered for the support he gave to fellow performers, including Fred Astaire, Lena Horne, Jesse Owens, and the Nicholas brothers. Sammy Davis, Jr. and Ann Miller credited him as a teacher and mentor, and Miller credits him with having "changed the course of my life." Gregory Hines produced and starred in a biographical movie about Robinson for which he won the NAACP Best actor Award. In 1989, the U.S. Congress designated May 25, Robinson's birthday, as National Tap Dance Day.

They are able to quickly adapt to new situations and grasp chances that need quick thinking and flexibility because they are flexible. This ability allows them to quickly adapt to new information and conditions.

Moon in Pisces

In the time when the Moon is in the sign of Pisces, those who are born under the sign of Cancer have the potential to receive twice as much emotional water energy. Because the Moon is currently in the sign of Pisces, the most fundamental qualities of your Cancer nature are enhanced with this situation. One of the most important characteristics of this personality type is the ability to take care of one's family, to be concerned about the well-being of other people, and to have strong emotional connections with other people. Therefore, the soul develops a greater capacity for sensitivity and awareness. This is not a scenario in which you are trying to force themself; rather, it is a lovely flow in which their inner self and emotional nature are in perfect sync with each other. One may say that they have the ability to sympathize with other people, which is comparable to holding psychic skills. Because of this, they have a natural capacity for empathy. As soon as they step into the room, they will be able to receive a sense of the emotions that the people who are physically present are experiencing. Consequently, they are a friend, husband, or family member who is extremely kind and caring for others. They are free to be as creative as they wish, and indulging in artistic endeavors such as singing, sketching, or telling stories may help them be more creative while also allowing them to relax and express themself. The two combined produce a dynamic tension where you want that intellectual freedom, and you have this deep, subconscious pull toward the visceral revolution–the tangible one.

The lesson of your life is to learn the ability to listen and follow through on your intuitive vision without allowing yourself to get scattered or resistant about changes that are required in order for you to walk in your dream. It is your strength Is to create something beautiful that Who side tracks the soul.
The way you make for a well fulfilled life here, is by learning how to be a courageous artist rather than just being a curious one. You will not be remembered for what you knew, but the real and change-inspiring things that you have created. When you arrive at the point where you trust your vision, that’s when your genius will truly express itself, as a light for others to follow in discovering their own courageous purpose.

Pluto in Taurus

Pluto in Taurus enters your 12th house, Gemini — the hidden space of the subconscious, spirituality and closure. This is one of the most magical placements for Pluto, and as a fast-moving air sign like you, it might feel otherworldly at times. The 12th house is not where you’re buzzing around in the outside world — it’s what’s happening behind closed doors, in your dreams, and deep inside your soul.
You might find yourself forced to confront fears that you’ve been avoiding or see old patterns and self-sabotaging behaviors resurface during this transit. Dark undercurrents might surface, repressed feelings need to be seen. At times, it may feel solitary — as though the universe is drawing you in for a private transformation. But there, of course, is the magic.
This is a spiritual detox. Meditation, therapy, dreamwork and creative solitude will become your powerful allies. You’re being invited to release baggage that’s been dogging you for years — even generations or lifetimes. This is not so much about building in the outer world, and more about cleaning out the inner-world trash to be able to step lighter and freer into the future.
By the time Pluto leaves here, you’ll be more connected to your intuition than you’ve ever been. You will carry with you a quiet power, a feeling of spiritual potency and more trust in the unseen forces that hold you. Think of it as a soul reboot — woo-woo, yes, but so liberating.

Sun in Gemini 4°18’

People born under the sign of Gemini are people of many talents and they are able to use their skills in both theory and practice. They are very intelligent and quick-witted people who are interested in everything that happen around them, and they can quickly adapt to any new situation. They are open to all novel things in the world, because they can quickly see their advantages. They try to show these novel things to others so that they can also benefit from them. But more conservative people often do not have an understanding for this. They are sociable people that have representative personalities and they can inspire and influence others with their innate charm and vigour.

The ruler of Gemini is Mercury, which gives people public speaking abilities and a writing talent. Together with their active nature, this gives these people predisposition to excel as great journalists or creative people in the field of advertising. However, there is no field of work in which they would not excel. Their manners, humour and the ease with which they solve problems make them in the eyes of other people a bit shallow, but this is a wrong assumption because these people can concentrate very well and this enables them to have good results. Additionally, it is not in their nature to lavishly emphasise the effort they put in their work.

They might also seem shallow to people who have certain opinion and they see its unchangeability as a sign of their adherence to their principles while people born under the sign of Gemini do not have any dogmas. In their case it is not deceitful adaptability, but their ability to admit a mistake to themselves and to others and to accept an opinion that has won for its logic.

For these people creative restlessness is their typical characteristic and their versatility is often an obstacle when they have to choose a career, so it takes them longer to make career choices then to others.

In their youth, these people change many different professions before they choose the right one. For people born under the sign of Gemini no experience is wasted. They are people who are comfortable anywhere in the world and in any situation. They tend to seek new experiences that they can communicate to others in an interesting and engaging way, but they never become fanatics who force their opinions on other people. They are genuine Democrats with forever young intellect.
