Christopher Columbus (c. 1451 – 20 May 1506) was an Italian explorer, navigator, colonizer, and citizen of the Republic of Genoa. Under the auspices of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, he completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. Those voyages and his efforts to establish permanent settlements on the island of Hispaniola initiated the European colonization of the New World. Western imperialism and economic competition were emerging among European kingdoms through the establishment of trade routes and colonies. Columbus proposed to reach the East Indies by sailing westward, and this eventually received the support of the Spanish Crown, which saw a chance to enter the spice trade with Asia through a new westward route. During his first voyage in 1492, he reached the New World instead of arriving at Japan as he had intended, landing on an island in the Bahamas archipelago that he named "San Salvador". Over the course of three more voyages, he visited the Greater and Lesser Antilles, as well as the Caribbean coast of Venezuela and Central America, claiming all of it for the Crown of Castile. Columbus was not the first European explorer to reach the Americas, having been preceded by the Viking expedition led by Leif Erikson in the 11th century, but his voyages led to the first lasting European contact with the Americas, inaugurating a period of European exploration, conquest, and colonization that lasted several centuries. These voyages had, therefore, an enormous impact in the historical development of the modern Western world. He spearheaded the transatlantic slave trade and has been accused by several historians of initiating the genocide of the Hispaniola natives. Columbus himself saw his accomplishments primarily in the light of spreading the Christian religion. Columbus never admitted that he had reached a continent previously unknown to Europeans, rather than the East Indies for which he had set course. He called the inhabitants of the lands that he visited indios (Spanish for "Indians"). His strained relationship with the Spanish crown and its appointed colonial administrators in America led to his arrest and dismissal as governor of the settlements on the island of Hispaniola in 1500, and later to protracted litigation over the benefits that he and his heirs claimed were owed to them by the crown.

Their strong desire to exert control, intense passion, and emotional fortitude are the main traits that make up their personality. These traits characterize their personality, and they are a Scorpio. However, their emotional inner world, which is ruled by the Moon and Libra, is looking for balance and needs a calm and harmonious environment to feel secure. Their Libra Moon needs to look into their Scorpio nature's strong desire to keep their feelings private and hidden and figure out how to balance them. This can put them in a difficult situation where they want to just feel but also feel the need to take charge of their emotional life. On the surface, they might come across as quiet and reserved, but underneath, they have a restless mind that is constantly attempting to make sense of the complicated emotional environment they are in. Mercury in Scorpio
With the Scorpio sun your mind is deep, emotional self-improvement may have little to no bounds. The whole of you is a dark and solid pool of confidence, and you have an unmovable belief in your vision. This combination makes for an interesting pull-and-tug between your very busy private nature and a deep yearning for objective justice. But your Saturn in Libra is here to show you that genuine security comes from a conscious endeavor to maintain equitable partnerships. It’s what makes you advocate for what is right even when it feels uncomfortable and define clear boundaries so that you can give to others without completely losing yourself. The real strength of this placement though, is when you take the fire of your intensity — in its rawest form — and turn that into a constructive, tangible force for good. You can be a silent leader, the booming voice of harmony in your social circles and further abroad. Your job is to apply your amazing emotional intelligence in”go out and make relationships and societies built on respect and fairness. But your whole life’s great lesson here, courtesy of Uranus, is to create a balance, structure and deep transformation in those relationships. This juxtaposition leads to an intriguing tug-of-war between your singular, private intensity and the dubious necessity of neutral investigation. Your Scorpio sun is always interested in getting to the emotional root of any matter, discovering truths down at the bottom and unsaid connections. But your Uranus in Cancer is here to school you that security and safety demands work, to face down whatever truths lay hidden in your relationships. It calls you to stand for what is right, even when it’s difficult and demands that you have clear boundaries so that you can give to others without losing yourself. The task becomes to be at once a passionately emotive force and a dogged advocate for justice. This placement’s real power is turning that wild intensity of yours into an organized, tangible force for good. There is no reason you can’t be a silent leader — loud and powerful in the harmony of these rooms and whenever you are out there interacting with others. Your job is to harness all the empathy in your power to create communities and relationships where people feel respected, loved even when they’re broken, where their trust runs deep – too deep to claim that respect (in action) isn’t owed. The fact is, you are uniquely positioned to travel through that complex emotional terrain without sacrificing what you think is true.
